Temple’s Women’s Basketball Internship

I’m excited to share an update about my current internship with the Temple Women’s Basketball Team, where I serve as both a manager and scout player. This opportunity came through a connection with a friend, and it’s been an incredible experience so far.

My journey began on October 1, 2024, when I joined as a practice player. My first practice was a success, competing against the players and helping them improve. As a welcome gesture, I received a pair of team shoes, which immediately made me feel part of the group.

Over the past few months, I’ve committed to attending practice 2-3 times a week for 1-2 hours, working around my class schedule. The team occasionally practices on weekends in preparation for upcoming games and scrimmages. My first opportunity to work as a manager came during the Big 5 Classic championship game against Villanova. My responsibilities included setting up the 30-minute timeout chairs in a semicircle near Temple’s bench, which required constant attention to the game clock and media timeouts.

Recently, I had the privilege of traveling with the team to the Raising the Bar Tournament at UC Berkeley. As both manager and scout player, my duties expanded to include carrying equipment, running errands, and distributing water bottles. This trip allowed me to bond with players and coaches, deepening my connection to
the team.

In my role as a scout player, I’m tasked with emulating specific opponents, mirroring their playing style and
tendencies. For instance, if we’re preparing to face a 6’3″ player who favors her right shoulder, I’d adopt that
style during practice.o the public.

This internship has been an eye-opening experience, especially considering women’s basketball is the fastestgrowing sport in the United States. I’m committed to continuing this role and supporting our team’s success. We’ve already celebrated some significant achievements, including winning the Big 5 Championship Classic and reaching the championship game in our most recent tournament.
